P1: EXPLAIN HOW SPECIAL EFFECTS ARE USED TO CREATE AUDIO VISUAL CONTENT
Morphing:
Morphing is a special effect used in motion pictures and animations that morphs one image or shape into another though seamless transition. One example of this in is Harry Potter, where a cat morphs into Professor McGonagall.
Rotoscoping:
Rotoscoping is where you transfer an image from live action film into another film sequence using a rotoscope. In this example you can see rotoscoping has been used as it's a picture that has been turned into a live action film.
3D animation:
3D animation is where you animate objects that appear in a 3D space. They can be rotated and moved like real objects. In this 3D animation has been used to create the whole short film, the dog, the boy and all the surroundings are in 3D animation.
Chroma Key Video:
Chroma Key Video is a special effect which take place in post-production. It's a technique that layers two images or video streams together based on colour hues. Chroma Key Video has been used here to create the illusion ET is flying in the sky.
CGI Video:
CGI Video is the use of computer graphics to create or contribute to images in art, printed media, videogames, films, television programs, shorts, commercials, videos, and many more. In jurassic park CGI video was used to create a dinosaur that moves in a scene with human characters.
Matte Paintings:
Matte paintings are painted representations of any landscape, set, or distant location that allows filmmakers to create the illusion of an environment that isn't at the filming location or even made up. On this example we can see the matte paintings are made to look like places that don't actually exist.
Prosthetics and Make up:
Prosthetics are used to sculpt, mould and cast different techniques to create advanced cosmetic effects. Here we see the prosthetics taking place to create a 'popeye' look.
Digital Compositing:
Digital compositing is the process of digitally putting together pictures to make one big final image. Here we can see different pictures being put into one to make a final image.
P2: EXPLAIN HOW VISUAL EFFECTS ARE USED TO ENHANCE AUDIO VISUAL CONTENT
Mechanised props:
Mechanised props usually take place during live action filming. In this example a robotic arm is used to create an illusion it's the mans real arm when he's cutting it.
Scale Models:
A scale model is a copy of an object that is larger or smaller than the actual size of the object being represented. In Harry Potter there is a scale model of Hogwarts.
This is a short video I made about the use of visual and special effects:
