The design components and layout:
The design components and layout of the app compared to the website are not significantly different, if anything the app and the website follow the same design and layout with a slight minor difference which is the fact the navigation bar appears at the top of the website where as on the app it appears at the bottom. In terms of design, the colour scheme and fonts are the same, which helps be constant with the brand identity as if someone were to see that who has not seen the BBC app before they would most likely guess that it was the BBC app. The layout has the latest story being featured first across both the app and the website, this tends to be joined with a relevant picture that is bigger than the other pictures, this is so the latest news story stands out and people aren't reading the same stories over again. There is more content spread across the BBC news website but on the app you have to scroll down further to reach all the content. |
The interactive features of the product:
The BBC News app is consistent between platforms with the content it releases and also the features do not differ much from the app to the webpage but the interactive features are easier to access on the app to the website, this is because there is a navigation bar at the bottom of the app that brings you straight to 'Videos of the day' for example where as on the website there is not an immediate link to it you have to click 'more' and then a drop down menu comes down so it isn't as easy as the app. Features on the app inculde:

The website still does have the same interactive features, for example the website also has videos of the day which is tailored towards people who rather watch the news than read about it, as this is an important interactive feature the website does use this feature - it just is not as instant access as the app.
However, if people have time to launch the website on their laptops they probably have the time to read the news where as if it's on the app on the go some people might find it easier to watch a video. So I think it's tailored towards the audience in terms of the difference in features. |
